LA Baby

I’m in Los Angeles for the first performance of a new piece (UNstasis) that I wrote for the Definiens Project as part of their C3 2010 Commissioning Project. It’s a quartet for oboe, bassoon, violin and cello and I’m excited to hear what they do with it.

The concert is 8pm on Tuesday, March 20 at the Ivy Substation in Culver City. More info is on the Facebook event or Definiens website.

Musicin’ and Bakin’

The New Music Bake Sale is this sunday from 4pm-midnight at Roulette in Brooklyn. The Sweat Lodge is repping for Exapno, and we’ll be playing a tune I wrote [MEGATRON] in the 7pm slot along with some other Exapno folks. CHECK IT OUT and come buy our delicious baked goods!

FACEBOOK EVENT

Big week!

There’s a lot going on this week in music land. First, The Carnegie Custodians are playing tonight at Kupersmith (49 Clinton St. – LES) sans David Whitwell but with the addition of my good friend/the once and future roommate Joe Chernus on guitar. Rootin. Tootin.

Then, following that up, there’s the 6th and second-to-last (!!) installment of Don’t Say Shit In Front of the B-A-B-Y, the super fun (Hyper FUN!?) series run by Aliza Simons. The show starts at 8PM, and I’ll be playing some early musics and newish musics with Amirtha Kidambi starting around 10:30. 40 West 86th St. Top Floor – NO JERKS ALLOWED!

And finally, The Sweat Lodge has a show, Winter Sweater, on Sunday at 7:30PM at Exapno. We are playing some brand new tunes and some reworkings of our other material. This event is part of the Composers Now Festival.

Many things to see! I hope you can make it to one of them.

Carnegie Custodians tonight @Kupersmith

We’re playing some musics tonight at Kupersmith NYC starting around 8:30! Kupersmith is a bar at 49 Clinton St. in Manhattan serving homemeade sausage and other pub fare. Come hear some tunes played by myself, David Whitwell, Lauren Lee and Pat O’Reilly. The password for the bartender is “David and his Sackbut” for $3 Kronenbourg beers.

Video – Accordion piece jan 2012

Here’s a video from The Sweat Lodge‘s SWEATronics show this weekend at Exapno. It’s a new thing for accordion and Max/MSP (live synthesis, not live sound processing). I’m still working on it, there will definitely be a more defined version of it some time soon, but in the mean time:

SWEATronics

This Saturday, January 28, The Sweat Lodge is presenting SWEATronics, music involving electronics written and performed by members of The Sweat Lodge (with a few special guests). Admission is free, donation only, and we have plenty of booze available by donation (or BYOB).

The show starts around 8PM at Exapno New Music Community Center – 5th Floor, 33 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn

Come out and hang out with us!

Video of “Hotel Spaceship”

Here’s a little video from The Sweat Lodge’s Dec. 17 show of Amirtha Kidambi and me playing a song.

This post coincides nicely with my friend Melissa Zett’s Etsy page featuring her work as an artist. She wrote the wonderful poem that provided the text for this song. Check it out here.
